There are over ten unique question types available for use when building the survey questions of a campaign. There are several options available for both open- and closed-ended question types, and each question is fully customizable in terms of the labels and requirements. It is important to select questions types that will report the data the way it is desired.

While survey questions can be edited at any time, some editing limitations apply once the campaign has been activated to maintain the integrity and value of the data.

Question Type

Description

Multiple Choice

single-answer mult. choice: Respondents have to select only one response from a given list of options. (radio button)

multi-answer mult. choice: Respondents may select multiple responses from a given list of options. (checkbox)

Rating Scale

Respondents are asked to select the number of stars/smileys on a scale to rank attributes or display feelings/emotions about a given interaction.

Likert Scale

Typically a five, seven, or nine-point agreement scale used to measure respondents' agreement with various statements.

(ex: Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, Strongly Disagree)

Dropdown

A closed-ended question that allows respondents to choose one (or multiple) answer(s) from a list of multiple choices.

Matrix Question

A closed-ended question that asks respondents to evaluate one or more row items using the same set of column choices.

Slider Question

A numerical scale that a respondent can use to rate an answer option by dragging a slider.

Open Ended

Respondents are given a text box to provide feedback or comments.

Short- and Long-form options available

Ranking Question

Respondents are asked to rank their preferences in a question in order of choice.

Upload Question

Allows respondents to attach a file along with their survey response.

Multiple Choice is a simple, closed-ended question type that allows respondents to select one or more answers from a pre-defined list of options.

When the radio button option is used, respondents will be able to choose one options from a list of answer choices provided.

Creating a Multiple Choice Question

To add a Multiple Choice question to a survey:

  1. On the campaign’s primary questions page, expand the + Add New Question menu, then select Multiple Choice.

  2. Type the question and format it as necessary using the formatting tools.

  1. Under the variable portion of the question, insert each response option that should be available for the question.

    1. To add additional response options, click the blue + Add Option text below the responses.

    2. To include Other as a response option, and to allows respondents to type in to specify their response, tick the checkbox beside the Other (please specify) field.

  1. At the bottom of the question editor, mark the question as required (toggle on) or optional (toggle off) for the respondents.

Analyzing the Response Data

Multiple Choice questions are easy to analyze due to their closed-ended nature. To view response data, visit the Question Summary page within a campaign. Below is a live example of a single-answer multiple choice question.

Each question summary provides a visual breakdown and a table breaking down the response data.
