Ranking Question

A Ranking Question is a survey question that asks respondents to prioritize or order a list of up to 10 items based on their preferences, importance, or other criteria. The benefit of ranking questions lies in their ability to discern the relative importance or preference of different elements within a set.

  1. Type the question and format it as necessary using the formatting tools.

  1. In the variable section, there are five text boxes for response options. Enter as few as two or as many as 10 responses in the order they should appear on the screen for the respondent. The respondent will use the number boxes on the left to rank their options.

    1. To re-order the response options, drag and drop while pressing the dots on the left of the response option.

Analyzing the Response Data

The ranking question response data is presented in a structured horizontal table format, akin to matrix questions. The left column lists the categories or items that respondents were tasked with ranking. Alongside each category, the table displays both the count and percentage of responses for various ranking positions, providing a detailed breakdown of respondent preferences.

This presentation allows for a comprehensive analysis of the distribution of rankings across different categories. Managers can quickly assess the popularity or priority of specific items based on the frequency and percentage of respondents assigning them to different ranks. The inclusion of both count and percentage data ensures a nuanced understanding of the relative importance or preference for each category.

A horizontal scroll can be used to view the entirety of the table.
