How to Set Up Randomized Redirection URLs for Secondary Workflow
Redirect survey respondents to one of several destinations at random, rather than a single fixed URL, when configuring the Secondary Workflow.
Overview
The Secondary Workflow now provides a Workflow Option that allows Managers/Admins to choose between a Randomized Redirection URL and the existing Custom URL behavior when configuring survey respondent redirection.
With Randomized Redirection URL, you configure multiple destination URLs, such as your Facebook page, Google review link, and Twitter profile, and enable or disable each independently. Every time the Secondary Workflow runs, the system randomly selects one active URL and sends the respondent there. This makes it easy to distribute respondents across multiple landing pages or follow-up destinations without building a separate workflow for each one.
Custom URL continues to work exactly as it does today — this is an additional option, not a replacement.

Instructions
How Do I Enable Randomized Redirection URL?
Navigate to the Campaigns module in XMP.
Open the relevant Survey Campaign.
Navigate to the Secondary Workflow configuration.
Enable Custom Link.
The new Workflow Option selector will be displayed.
Select either Randomized Redirection URL or Custom URL based on your organization's requirements.
How Do I Configure Site URLs?
Under Site URLs, enter each destination URL you want respondents redirected to.
Use the toggle next to each URL to mark it active or inactive. Only active URLs are eligible for random selection.
Click Add site URL to add additional destinations as needed.
Save your configuration.
What Happens When the Workflow Runs?
Each time a respondent completes the survey and the Secondary Workflow fires, the system randomly picks one active URL and redirects the respondent there.

Randomized Redirection URL: Configure multiple URLs and enable or disable individual URLs.
Automatic URL Selection: The system randomly picks one active URL each time the Secondary Workflow runs — no manual intervention needed.
Clean Exclusion of Disabled URLs: Inactive URLs automatically drop out of the rotation, so you can pause a destination without deleting its configuration.
Single-URL Fallback: If only one URL is active, that URL is used every time — no broken behavior at the edge case.
Zero Disruption to Custom URL: Site Title and Site URL configurations remain unchanged, and existing campaigns continue to run with no migration required.
Good to know: Randomization is not weighted — it doesn't guarantee equal traffic distribution across configured URLs over time.
How Do I Keep Using Custom URL Instead?
Select Custom URL from the Workflow Option selector and configure Site Title and Site URL as you always have. No changes or migration are required for existing campaigns already using Custom URL.
Rules & Limits at a Glance
Rule | Enforced On |
|---|---|
Workflow Option selector only appears once Custom Link is enabled | Secondary Workflow configuration |
Only active (toggled-on) URLs are eligible for random selection | Randomized Redirection URL |
Selection is unweighted — no guaranteed even distribution | Randomized Redirection URL |
Existing Custom URL campaigns require no migration | Secondary Workflow configuration |
Final Notes
Randomized Redirection URL gives you greater flexibility in managing post-survey follow-up — letting you direct respondents to different destinations, spread traffic across multiple landing pages or resources, and do it all without standing up separate workflows. Custom URL remains fully intact for organizations that don't need randomization.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Resolution |
|---|---|
Workflow Option selector isn't showing | Confirm Custom Link is enabled in the Secondary Workflow configuration. |
A URL never gets selected | Check that the URL's toggle is set to active. |
Traffic seems unevenly split across URLs | Expected behavior — random selection is unweighted and doesn't guarantee equal distribution. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use both Custom URL and Randomized Redirection URL on the same campaign?
No, the Workflow Option selector is either/or. Choose the behavior that fits the campaign.
What happens if I disable all my Site URLs?
With no active URLs, there's nothing for the workflow to select — configure at least one active URL for redirection to work.
Do existing campaigns need to be updated to keep working?
No, Campaigns already using Custom URL continue running unchanged, with no migration required.
